Steve McKenzie November Update
inability to reach any sort of conclusion, the hirers that I have visited seem positive and are doing what they can to ‘control the controllables’! Many hirers are continuing to invest in their fleets to add innovative new products and replace older pieces of kit. There is no better opportunity to make such purchases than at the Executive Hire Show on February 5th and 6th 2020!
Two of the hirers that I visited during November that were positive and upbeat were Hodgson Tool Hire in Ormskirk and Luscombe Plant Hire in Ulverston. Both companies boast modern well-appointed buildings and showrooms that are bursting with products to appeal to any contractors or DIY’ers that are passing through the depot. It makes perfect sense to complement hire revenue with having the right products on hand to make a sale at the same time.
I spoke to Mike Hodgson and Lee Cavey at Hodgson Tool Hire, both of whom have been regular visitors to the Show over the years. They are both looking forward to the 2020 event and, as ever will be keeping their eyes open for new ideas and products. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that behind my car in the picture is a Lifan EcoBike that Mike and Lee first saw on the HSC stand at EHS 2019. Mike commented, “In addition to more conventional resale items, we are always on the look-out for something to generate interest with our customers. The Lifan EcoBike is a great example of this and has been a real talking point with a number of customers!”
When I called in to Luscombe Plant Hire, as ever the welcome from owners, Simon and Bev Luscombe was warm. The company were the worthy winners of the EHS 2017 Passionate Hirer Award for single depots. The award bears testament to the team spirit that is very apparent when you visit the company. Simon and Bev will be at the 2020 Show to catch up with existing suppliers such as Belle, who they purchased one of the first new one tonne High Tip Dumpers from earlier this year. They will also be on the lookout for new products to add to their hire fleet and any resale items that catch their eye to stock in their impressive showroom which spans two floors. Simon did comment that the 2020 Show looks like it is going to be busy as they are struggling to find any local accommodation for the night of February 5th!Go to Show Diary
