Steve McKenzie's November update
My travels in November took me to Chorley, The Wirral, Manchester, North Wales, Liverpool and then culminated in my annual Executive Hire Show tour of Ireland!
My visit to Ireland is one of the highlights of my EHS visits as the welcome that I receive is so warm. It always amazes me just how many hirers fly in from all over Ireland to visit the hire industry’s annual event!
As ever, the schedule for my tour was very full and after flying in to Belfast City Airport at lunchtime on Tuesday, I headed south through Banbridge & Newry finishing the day at previous Passionate Hirer Award winner, Dromad Hire in Dundalk. I spent some time with General Manager, Ronan Cotter who is looking forward to the Show in February and will be attending with the company’s M.D, Seamus Byrne. On Wednesday, I started off in Drogheda, before heading down into Dublin, then on to Wicklow before finishing the day with last year’s Passionate Hirer award winner, Clem Jacob Hire in Waterford. All of the team at Clem Jacob Hire are clearly very proud of the award and Clem is intending to visit the 2019 Show to see what is new. I left Waterford at 17.05 and got to my hotel in Skibbereen at 20.05 ready for an early start on Thursday. My first call of the day was to see regular EHS visitor, Vincent Hurley who owns and runs Skibbereeen Tool Hire. Vincent was very keen to hear how hirers are faring in the UK and will be at Show in February looking for new ideas and product opportunities. I then headed into Cork before starting to head back north via Urlingford and then on to Portlaoise before the long drive up to Coleraine. The last day of my tour started bright & early at CP Hire in Coleraine where I spent some time with Purchasing Manager, Stephen McMullan. I told Stephen all about the 2019 Show and how the main hall has been revamped to freshen the event up. I then headed off to McCarroll Plant Hire in Ballymena and spoke to father & son, Rory & Michael McCarroll. Rory has been attending hire shows since they used to be held at Wembley many years ago. He is a big fan of EHS and they have already booked their flights to Birmingham! My day then took me to Cookstown, Dungannon, Craigavon, Carryduff and then finally into Belfast where my last visit was to Balloo Hire.
If anyone doubts just how far the HSC team are going to mobilise and enthuse hirers to visit EHS 2019, I drove 952 miles and travelled from one end of Ireland to the other!
