Passionate Hirer Awards 2017 Winners

The 2017 Passionate Hirer Awards were presented during the first part of the Executive Hire Party, and other industry achievers were also highlighted.

For the 2017 Awards, a shortlist of seven hirers were nominated from more than 700 depots throughout the UK and Ireland visited by the Show National Visitor Campaign team in the months leading up to the exhibition.

The Finalists were divided into two categories, namely Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company and Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company. Following 'mystery shopper' visits and calls to their depots, each was scrutinised under a broad range of criteria including: overall layout and presentation of premises, competence of staff with emphasis on team effort and willingness to go that extra mile, efficiency in handling orders and enquiries, quality of both hire fleet kit and transport, commitment to staff training, product innovation and a willingness to explore new opportunities.

The Winner in the Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company category was Luscombe Plant Hire of Ulverston. The Judges said that it "has really raised the bar in the way it serves the Lake District. In addition to an extensive hire fleet, its modern premises include a large, well-laid out sales showroom. A superb mezzanine level, stocking branded workwear ranges, has also been recently added. With large investment in nearby Barrow-in-Furness to build the next generation of submarines, Luscombe Plant Hire is set for a further boost in its growth."

Swindon-based Artisan Hire, which recently opened its eighth depot, has grown to become a successful regional player and was the Winner in the Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company category. The Award citation read, "You can feel the Directors' enthusiasm for hire, and see the way they provide very high standards of customer care and safety. The fact that the company adheres to high ethical standards clearly demonstrates its commitment to ‘doing it the right way'."
